Fremont

  • Alameda Creek Regional Trail. 12.4 mile trail. Leashes required in some posted area only. 510-635-0135.
  • Coyote Hills Regional Park. Almost one thousand acres. Interstate 880, to (West) Decoto Rd. (Highway 84), North on Paseo Padre Parkway to (left) Patterson Ranch Road, to the entrance. 510-635-0135.
  • Lake Elizabeth Dog Park. Off Stevenson Blvd at Lake Elizabeth, near softball camp side if the lake. Fun leash off, fenced in park for good mannered dogs only. At 6-8 pm you can see over 30 dogs running their tails off. Clean up after your dog bags available. Please also bring more to contribute. From north take 880 South, Stevenson Blvd Exit. Left onto Stevenson. Drive 2 miles. Pass Paseo Padre. Make right at Softball Camp into parking lot. Drive to back of parking lot. From Pleasanton/ San Ramon, take 680 South, Take Washington Blvd Exit. Becomes Fremont Blvd. Drive 1-1/2 miles to Stevenson. Go right. Then follow above directions.(Thank you Max Ware)

Hayward

Livermore

  • Del Valle Regional Park. Interstate 580 to North Livermore Avernue, to South Livermore Avenue, to Tesla Rd, right on Mines Road, right on Del Valle Rd. 510-635-0135.
  • Lake Del Valle.  Dog swimable shoreline trails and off-leash permitted! There is also a $1 dog fee. Location: 7000 Del Valle Road, Livermore, CA 94550. Directions: There is only one entrance to the park so you can use Mapquest  or Yahoo Maps to get full directions. Once entered the park, proceed to the main boat launch/concession area where the trail head start. Off-leash are only allowed beyond this gate. Enjoy! (Thank you Giang Tran)

Oakland

  • Hardy Dog Park. Fenced, shade, water, poop bags, seating, and parking. Claremont Ave. at Hudson St., Oakland (Rockridge District), California, USA. Directions: under the freeway (Hwy 24) on Claremont between College Ave & Telegraph Ave. (Thank you Lynda O'Neil)
  • Leona Heights Park. Take 580 to the Keller exit (from either direction), go east on Keller, turn left on Campus and turn immediately right on Canyon Oaks Drive and turn left, go to the end of the parking lot, and there is the trail head. (Thank you Lynn Ellen Marcus)
  • Redwood Regional Park. Highway 13 to (east) Joaquin Miller Road, right on Skyline Blvd for four miles to the Skyline Gate. 510-635-0135.
  • Washington Square Park. This park has recently been reopened and enlarged. 5 acre area, fenced, water nearby, paid parking meters, restrooms. San Leandro

  • Marina Park. Marina and Fairway. It is just south of the channel bridge as you go along the shoreline next to the golf course. Park at the south end of Marina Park and walk over the bridge and you will find it. (Thank you Karen Sakai)

  • San Lorenzo Community Park. Fenced half-acre site on the west side of the 30-acre park. Located at 1970 Via Buena Vista. From 880 take Hesperian exit. Chico

  • Bidwell Park. 2,250 acre park. Dogs are allowed leashless in the undeveloped areas, North or Upper Park Road, only the lakes are off limits. In the developed areas West of Manzanita Ave., dogs can go leashless before sunrise to 8:30am. Highway 99, go East on Bruce Road, left on Chico Canyon Drive, left at Manzanita Avenue, and continue for about half a mile to Upper Park Road. 916-895-4972

  • Memorial Park - Dog Run. 1.3 acre dog run within Memorial Park (dedicated to 9/11/01). Fenced, water, shade structure, benches, and surface is decomposed granite, a sandy material that dogs seem to love. Location: Bollinger Canyon Road at San Ramon Valley Blvd., just west of I680 freeway offramp. Arcata

  • Clam Beach County Park. 10-15 tent sites. Take the 101 for about 7 miles North of Arcata and then take the Clam Beach Park exit and go West for a couple of miles. 707-445-7652.
  • Mad River County Park. A beach where dogs can run around without leashes. Take the 101, exit West on Giuntoli Lane, go right onto Heindon Road and follow the signs. 707-445-7651.

Eureka

  • Samoa Boat Ramp County Park. Small beach. Take Highway 255 from Eureka, and cross the Samoa Bridge. Once on the Samoa Peninsula, turn left on New Navy Base Rd and drive for about five miles south. The park is on the left. 707-445-7651.
  • Samoa Dunes Recreation Area. 300 Acres of coastal dunes. Take Highway 255 from Eureka and cross Samoa Bridge. Once on Samoa Peninsula, turn left on New Navy Base Road for about five miles south. The park is on the right side. 707-825-2300.

Shasta-Trinity National Forest

  • 2.1 million acre forest. Over 1500 miles of trails. Forest Headquarters: 2400 Washington Ave., Redding, CA 96001, 916-246-5222.

Shelter Cove

Clearlake Oaks

Cobb

  • Boggs Mountain Demonstration State Forest. 3,500 acre forest. Dogs must be leashed in the campgrounds only. North of Cobb for one mile on Highway 175, where you will see a blue and white sign for the fire station. At the fist intersection past the sign, go East for about 1/4 of a mile to the entrance. 707-928-4378.

Lakeport

  • Cow Mountain Recreation Area. 27,000 acres. Enter Yonce Road (Old Toll Road). The main entrance is near Ukiah.

Mendocino National Forest

Lassen

Lassen National Forest

  • 1.4 million acre forest with volcanic features. No dogs in the Lassen Volcanic National Park. But there are over 300 miles of forests, including Spattercone Trail. Forest Headquarters: 55 S Sacramento St., Susanville, CA 96130, 916-257-2151.
  • Modoc National Park. 1.9 million acre forest. Indian tribes once occupied the area. Over 300 species of wildlife, including Bald Eagles. Forest Headquarters: 441 N Main St., Alturas, Ca 96101, 916-233-5811.

Susanville

  • Biz Johnson Rail Trial. 25 mile trail. Highway 36 to South Lassen Street, turn left and go for 4 blocks. 916-257-0456.

Westwood

Marin

Bolinas

  • Agate Beach. Leashless under voice control. Highway 1 to Olema-Bolinas Rd, West on Mesa Rd., left on Overlook Dr, right on Elm Rd. to the end. 650-499-6387.
  • Bolinas Beach. Wharf Road to the end at teh foot of the bluff. 650-499-6387.
  • RCA Beach. A virtually abandoned beach with white sand, driftwood and complete privacy and freedom. This location is a prize spot and is frequented by the occassional nudist. There may be two or three people there,...probably not. Take a right turn onto Mesa, at the stop sign under the gum trees, just before entering Bolinas. Follow the road about two miles, until you drive over a roller coaster hill. At the point whwere it takes a sharp right turn, park in the area inside the cattle grate and walk down the long drive. After the first building on your left, cut at 45 degrees to the left, over the slats in the fence and keep going diagonally to the dirt track....head for the sloping tree clump on the horizon to the left. There's a path there, or follow the trail/road along a bit firther for the 'horse' trail. (Thank you Reverend Mike Goldsun)

Corte Madera

  • Camp K-9 of Marin. "Campground" Rental - Private Dog Park. Offers the rental of a large outdoor exercise yard, securely fenced and surfaced with a clean layer of woodchip. Fresh water, shade/rain structures and waste bins are all provided-you bring the fun! Reservations are required. Location: 5810 Paradise Drive. Directions: From 101 North, Exit Tamalpias Drive. Take first right on Tamalpias Drive. Take first right on Paradise Drive, Camp K-9 will be on your left after the car dealerships. From 101 South, Take Tamalpais Drive/Paradise Drive exit. Jackson State Forest

Little River

Mendocino National Forest

Ukiah

  • Cow Mountain Recreation Area. 27,000 acres. U.S. 101, East on Talmage Road to the City of 10,000 Buddha's (road ends), right at East Side Road for half a mile, then go left on Mill Creek Rd. 707-468-4000.
  • Low Gap Park. In Low Gap Park itself the sign say dogs must be on a leash. However, when the tennis courts are empty they are a great place to throw tennis balls for those with Retrievers among us. Just leave the court when someone comes to play tennis and everyone is very pleasant and friendly about dogs on the courts! Turn west onto Low Gap Rd form State Stree. Modoc National Forest

New Pine Creek

  • Cave Lake/ Lily Lake. Free campground of six sites and open from July to October. From New Pine Creek, take the 395, take the unpaved Forest Service Road 2 East for about 6 miles uphill. 916-233-5811.

Mono

Inyo National Forest

  • 1.8 million acre forest with 1,200 miles of trails. The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest are the oldest living things on earth. Forest Headquarters: 873 N. Main Street, Bishop, CA 93514, 619-873-2400.

June Lake

  • Marco Dog Park. The park is located on Sierra Gardens Drive, North of Douglas Blvd. Off of eastbound I-80 take the Douglas Blvd. East exit, and keep going east. At the third traffic light make a left on to Sierra Gardens Drive. The park is on the right, just as the road begins to curve to the left. It is in a big bowl, is completely fenced, and has water available, including a couple of wading pools. (The organization R- DOG (Roseville Dog Owners Group) helped to establish the park and they keep the park supplied with bags, and they are responsible for improvements.)

Make a left on Cottage Way, and enter the park at the first entrance on the left. The off-leash area of the park (it is fenced) is between the tennis courts and the baseball field. You can see the fenced-in area down the walkway with signs pertaining to this dog park. It is called Howe About Dogs Park. The organization responsible for this park is called SCOOP (Sacramento Canine Owners for Off-leash Parks).

Turn right at the 1st stop light which takes you over the freeway and at the 2nd stop light turn right again and get into the left lane immediately and turn left at the 3rd stop light.     Fenced dog park in San Bruno hills. A good place for dogs to get a hearty run in. Poop bags and water provided. There does tend to be a lot of holes and one needs to check and make sure that gates at both ends of the park are closed before taking dog in. Location: In Back of Maywood School. Directions: From San Francisco take 280 south to the Westborough exit. Follow Westborough up hill until the 2nd stop light and turn left there. Follow that a good way into the Rollingwood area and turn left on Maywood. Follow Maywood until it dead-ends in the school parking lot.
